PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet stacker managing well with a higher copying speed. SOLUTION: The sheet stacker is equipped with a sheet grasping means 125 to carry a sheet of paper S upon grasping its leading edge, a circulating means 123 to circulate the grasping means, a leading edge stopper 127 installed on a circulation path of the sheet grasping means for deciding the position of the sheet leading edge, a sheet placing table 131 installed under the circulation path of the sheet grasping means for receiving the sheet dropped off from the grasping means by the stopper, a trailing edge stopper 129 to decide the position of the trailing edge of the sheet on the table, and an lifting device 133 to change the level difference between the sheet placing table and the circulating means, wherein the leading edge stopper 127 and the trailing edge stopper 129 are arranged moving in the same direction of conveyance at certain intervals each containing a specified number of sheets. Stacking the sheets is made practicable only by shifting the stoppers in the carrying direction, and the stacker can be embodied in a very simple constitution, and a high speed operation can be established.
