PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To optimize the drive control for a paper feed lift-up mechanism and a paper feed pick-up mechanism. SOLUTION: In this image forming apparatus, the paper feed lift-up mechanism and the paper feed pick-up mechanism are driven by one driving source, and the drive to the lift-up and the drive to the pick-up are switched by a rocking gear. The position of the pick-up mechanism is accurately detected, and the struggle of the rocking gear is restrained to accurately pick up and lift up the paper sheet. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
