PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass plate transporting apparatus and a glass plate transporting method in which a packed state can be released from the rear surface side of a pallet after transporting the glass plate, the glass plate can be removed from the pallet even in the case that no sufficient space is left above the pallet and further occurrence of dusts can be restricted. SOLUTION: This glass plate transporting apparatus comprises a glass plate transporting pallet having a floor frame for mounting a plurality of glass plates 19 while being arranged side by side in a forward or rearward direction; a rear frame set upright from the floor frame; and a glass plate binding means for binding the mounted glass plates 19. The glass plate binding means comprises a plate member 6 for pressing from above against the glass plate; and a belt 23 for fastening the plate member 6 against the floor frame and the rear frame. The plate member 6 has a plurality of openings 26 for use in passing the belt 23 therethrough in a predetermined spacing in a forward or rearward direction, and there are provided belt wrapping members 12, 18 for wrapping the belt 23 on the rear frame and the floor frame for connection with the belt 23.
