PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymerization catalyst. SOLUTION: The olefin polymerization catalyst has a transition metal complex to be represented by formula (1) (wherein M is a group 4 transition metal; Cp is a group having a cyclopentadiene type anion skeleton; and X1and X2are each independently a halogen atom, a 1-20C hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; an alkoxy group which may be substituted, an aryloxy group which may be substituted, an acyloxy group which may be substituted, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, a thioester residue, a sulfonic acid residue or a hydrocarbon two-substituted amino group, and X1and X2may be bonded to form a ring) as a catalyst component.
