PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure for map data in which a part of large-capacity map data provided by a recording medium or the like is updated with satisfactory efficiency and in which new data and old data are used with satisfactory efficiency so as to have a matching property, to provide a map-data processing unit using the map data having the structure and to provide the recording medium in which the map data having the structure is recorded. SOLUTION: Whole-country map data is divided into a plurality of blocks, each block is divided into a plurality of meshes, each block has whole-mesh control information, a part of the whole-country map data is updated in units of meshes while the whole-mesh control information is being used, and data between the meshes having different update histories are connected so as to be related by using a key of a two-dimensional coordinate values plus something corresponding to a latitude and a longitude.
