PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for defrosting the evaporator coil of an air conditioner automatically without using a static pressure in place of a conventional manual operation. SOLUTION: This transport vehicle temperature control device can be operated so as to circulate refrigerant through the evaporator coil for cooling an air conditioning space inside a mobile vehicle and to maintain an ambient temperature in the air conditioning space within the range of a target temperature. This method comprises the steps of detecting the ambient temperature in the air conditioning space, operating to defrost hot cargos when the ambient temperature in the air conditioning space is higher than a set temperature, and starting a first defrosting cycle to remove condensate from the evaporator coil and terminating the first defrosting cycle. The first defrosting cycle comprises a defrosting duration time. The method also comprises the steps of defining a defrosting interval according to the defrosting duration time and starting a second defrosting cycle after the defrosting interval is terminated.
