PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for backing up telephone direction data of a portable telephone set and restoring the telephone direction data when needed only by allowing a user to perform a simple operation without needing a special tool. SOLUTION: The user connects the portable telephone set to a server through a communication network and transmits to the server the telephone directory data of the portable telephone set. If the telephone directory data of the portable telephone set are partially or entirely lost, or when a new portable telephone set is bought, the user reconnects the portable telephone set to the server, receives the telephone directory data and registers the telephone directory data in a memory of the portable telephone set.
