PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a peripheral structure of a balancer shaft in an internal combustion engine to implement effective and efficient arrangement of constituent members. SOLUTION: In an engine that is mounted to be tilt forward so that a cylinder axis is approximately horizontal, an oil filter is disposed forward and below a crankshaft, and a balancer shaft 121 in synchronization with and driven by the crankshaft is interposed between the oil filter and the crankshaft. An oil pump 120 is disposed forward and in parallel with the balancer shaft 121, and the oil pump 120 is connected with a balancer shaft 121 at a suitable intermediate position in a longitudinal direction of the balancer shaft 121 through a transmission member 128. A second balancer shaft is arranged across the crankshaft to be opposite to the balancer shaft 121. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
