PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling operation of an air conditioner is provided to allow the air conditioner to rapidly respond to load generated in the air conditioner by installing and operating an operation controller controlling operation of an evaporator and an expansion valve correspondingly with the load, and to reduce power consumption by reducing number of interruption of a compressor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a temperature sensor sensing temperature of discharged air, and a tube sensor(62) sensing degree of superheat of the discharged air to determine load of an air conditioner; the first evaporator(57) and the second evaporator(58) opened and closed depending on load of the air conditioner determined by the temperature sensor for operation corresponding with load of the air conditioner; an on/off valve(59) installed on suction tubes of the evaporators to determine opening and closing of the evaporators; and an expansion valve(56) whose opening degree is determined by opening and closing of the on/off valve to allow the air conditioner to work intermittently.
