PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having an increased initial discharging capacity and cycle characteristics.

SOLUTION: This nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery uses, as a negative pole material a mixture of substance A formed by covering the surface of silica particles with carbon material and substance B formed of the carbon material. The coated carbon amount in the substance A is 5 to 60 w.%.
