The ballasting machine for roadways has a frame (1) with mounting arms to attach to the bucket (1) of an excavator by the rotation linkage (2,3) of the bucket. The bucket has a front edge provided with scraper teeth (15) and the frame carries a screeding plate (16) and vibrator (19) behind the teeth. The plate edges can be shaped to allow compacting in forward or reverse directions.
