1337501 Coated pigments BAYER AG 7 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 782/71 Headings C1N and C1A [Also in Division C3] An inorganic pigment is coated with a non- drying alkyd resin which has been prepared from a polyol containing at least 3 OH groups and having an O : C atomic ratio of not more than 0À7 : 1. The resin may be added in emulsified or dissolved form during final grinding. The pigment is preferably rutile TiO 2 which may be obtained by the sulphate or chloride process and may be coated with Al 2 O 3 or SiO 2 . Iron and chromium oxides are also referred to. Exemplified alkyds are prepared from (1) 1-ethyl hexanoic acid, 1,2,6-hexane triol, phthalic anhydride, malaeic acid; (2) fatty acids obtained in the oxidation of paraffins, trimethylol propane, phthalic anhydride, maleic acid; (3) palmitic acid, 1,3-butane diol, trimethylol propane, phthalic anhydride. |
