<p>The invention relates to the use of one or more natural or modified oxygen carriers or their derivatives, for producing an agent for treating organ dysfunction caused by an acute supply deficiency and for treating/preventing tissue damage as a result of a dysfunction of this type. The inventive agent allows conditions caused by an acute oxygen and/or nutrient deficiency, such as tinnitus, cardiac infarction, stroke, sudden deafness, vertigo, placental insufficiency, renal shock or pulmonary shock to be treated. The oxygen carrier(s) can be of human or animal origin and can be used in the form of aqueous solutions containing, for example, the electrolyte concentrations that occur naturally or additional salts/additives. The oxygen carrier is used in solution in a concentration of between 2 and 200 g/litre, preferably between 10 and 80 g/litre over a period of between 1 day (e.g. single dose) and 6 weeks with multiple doses, according to requirements and prescription.</p> |
