PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control technique for readily carrying out color deepening in a method for coloring a fiber, by which a tryptophan-containing fiber is colored by using an aldehyde compound and a method for carrying out color development and the color deepening in a water system. SOLUTION: In a method for coloring the fiber, by which the tryptophan- containing fiber is colored with the aldehyde compound, the method for controlling the color development of the fiber comprises a first process for treating the fiber, which naturally contains tryptophan or into which tryptophan is introduced from the outside, with an acid and the aldehyde compound and a second process for treating the fiber treated by the first process with an oxidizing agent in the presence of the acid. In the method for controlling the color development, an aromatic aldehyde compound and a benzaldehyde derivative are water- soluble. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
