<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having high maintainability that developer need not be replaced and realizing the stable adjustment of a developer quantity by a simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: A developing device is used in the image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic system and stores two-component developer consisting of toner and carrier for developing an electrostatic latent image on a photoreceptor, and the image forming apparatus is provided with a container storing the toner and the carrier to be supplied to the developing device, and possesses a mechanism for performing the replenishment of the developing device with two-component developer from the container storing the toner and the carrier and the discharge of two-component developer from the developing device and discharges deteriorated developer by performing development with the carrier at an non-image area on the photoreceptor from a developing sleeve by fogging eliminating potential as the discharge of the developer, and magnetic force working in the normal direction of the developing sleeve to the carrier at the developing nip part of a developing pole nearly opposed to the photoreceptor of a fixed magnet in the developing sleeve is made smaller only in an area in which the carrier is discharged than in the other area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
