PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new organic solvent-soluble phthalocyanine compound and uses thereof. SOLUTION: The new phthalocyanine compound is represented by general formula (1) [wherein, R denotes an alkyl group or an alkyl ether group; Pc(M) denotes a phthalocyanine zinc complex or a phthalocyanine copper complex; and n denotes an integer of 1-4]. Since the compound assumes a blue color and is soluble in organic solvents, the compound can be used as a coloring material such as a dye. Since the compound exhibits red fluorescence emission, the compound is useful as a luminous layer of an organic electroluminescent (EL) element. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
