Iron is removed from ground water flowing into a well by the precipitation of insoluble oxides of iron effected by the injection of water containing oxygen into the layer of earth which bears the ground water and surrounds the well. An arrangement of pipes for this purpose is described. The oxygen may be added to a portion of the water drawn from the well which is subsequently passed under pressure into the soil layer from the well. |
