PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain felt for a heat-resistant bag filter which comprises a filter layer containing a polyphenylene sulfide fiber and a support layer, has good collection efficiency because of low pressure loss, generates no clogging and can perform the filtering of an exhaust gas stably over a long period of time. SOLUTION: The felt for the bag filter comprises a filter layer containing polyphenylene sulfide fibers and the support layer and has an apparent void ratio of 75-85%. This felt is characterized in that the shrinkage factor in the longitudinal direction of the felt is not more than 4% after 200°C×24 hr treatment under no load in air, the elongation in the longitudinal direction of the felt after 200°C×24 hr treatment under load of 2 kg/5 cm in air is not more than 2%, the mean pore size of the felt before and after heat treatment is 20-30μm and the maximum pore size is 50-100μm.
