A camera (11) includes a CMOS image sensor (12) that converts an input light to obtain image data; a non-contact ID Chip reading part (22) or GPS/LPS part (21) that determines the position of the camera (11); an operation-inhibiting-condition setting part (20) that determines whether the detected position of the camera (11) is within or outside a prescribed area; and an operation control part (17). When it is determined that the position of the camera (11) is outside the prescribed area, the operation control part (17) inhibits the CMOS image sensor (12) from performing the imaging operation. In this way, the imaging can be disabled when the imaging apparatus is carried away out of the prescribed area without permission.
