Generally, improvements are provided to the safety and other characteristics of a miniature lamp including several related to the possible reduction of the occurrence of electrocution, serious electric shock, and/or fire hazards that may be caused by the crushing of the glass envelope surrounding the internal components of the lamp and the related exposure of full-line voltage to the environment. These improvement include the locating of a bypass shunt below an insulator bead, and the use of an enlarged insulator bead that not only provides protection for the bypass shunt but also provides better filament and conductor centering within the envelope of the lamp, which not only provides a safer lamp but also a lamp having a longer lamp life. Furthermore, other embodiments describe other methods of increasing proper shunt action by minimizing the likelihood of a short circuit forming above the insulator bead.
