A method of making a rolling bearing cage portion or like annular element comprises winding a metal strip or wire into a helix, removing a convolution therefrom, joining its end portions together to form a ring and pressing the ring to the required shape. The helix has substantially the same diameter as the finished component and the ends of the convolution are welded together under pressure. When using wire, the convolution is pressed flat prior to welding. Loose guide rings for spherical roller bearings and locking rings for other types of rolling bearings may also be made by this method. |
