PURPOSE: A plasma display panel is provided to achieve improved aperture ratio of front substrate by arranging second and third electrodes and floating electrode on a vertical line. CONSTITUTION: A plasma display panel comprises a substrate(41); a first electrode(42) formed into a predetermined pattern on the substrate; a first dielectric layer(43) formed on the substrate in such a manner that the first electrode is buried by the first dielectric layer; a second electrode(44) arranged at the outer surface of the first dielectric layer in such a manner that the second electrode is perpendicular to the first electrode; a front substrate(51) opposed to the substrate; a third electrode(52) arranged on the lower surface of the front substrate opposed to the substrate and disposed in the direction parallel to the second electrode; a second dielectric layer(53) formed on the lower surface of the front substrate in such a manner that the third electrode is buried by the second dielectric layer; and a floating electrode(54) formed on the second dielectric layer corresponding to the third electrode. The floating electrode is not connected to an external power source. A preliminary discharge occurs when a predetermined AC voltage is applied to the first and second electrodes. A sustain discharge occurs when a predetermined voltage is applied to the second and third electrodes.
