The instruction processing of a thread within pipelined execution units of a processor, is monitored. The deactivation of the thread is decided during the event of possible switch point within the execution units, based on an urgency indicator of the thread. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) explicitly parallel instruction computing processor; and (2) thread switch point determination system.
