PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To greatly shorten an editing time with a simple construction and processing, to drastically improve editing efficiency and to provide a highly precise editing result by once recording reproduction data reproduced at a high speed on a disk drive, reproducing the data, applying a special effect processing to the data, reproducing the data at a high speed after rerecording the data on the disk drive and recording the data at a high speed. SOLUTION: An editing system comprises: high speed transfer equipment 21 for reproducing video and audio data to be edited at a speed that is n times faster than a normal reproducing speed and outputting the video and audio data at an n-hold transfer speed; a temporary recording or storage device 22 for recording or storing the output of the equipment 21 and reading the video and audio data at a normal transfer speed; a video special effect mixer 25 for applying prescribed video special effect processing to the video and audio data; the temporary recording or storage device 22 for recording or storing the video and audio data and reading the data at a transfer speed that is n times faster than the normal transfer speed; and high speed transfer equipment 26 for recording or storing the output of the temporary recording or storing means 22 at a storing speed that is n times faster than a normal recording or storing speed.
