METHOD FOR ELECTRIC DISCHARGE HEATING OF MULTIPLE OPTICAL FIBER AND HEATER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric discharge heating method for multiple optical fibers capable of uniformly applying thermal energy to all the optical fibers of the multiple fibers by electric discharge heating and additional electric discharge heating for a TEC treatment for the purpose of simultaneous fusion splicing of the multiple optical fiber and an electric discharge heater. SOLUTION: The electric discharge heating method for the multiple optical fibers comprises arraying a plurality of the optical fibers 2 removed of coatings at their ends to one row in a plane form by V-grooved substrates 5, butting their connecting ends against each other and performing the simultaneous fusion splicing or simultaneous heat treatment by applying the thermal energy by an arc electric discharge to the arraying direction of the optical fibers 2. Electric discharge electrodes 7 are so arranged that the centers 8a of the arc electric discharge paths intersect diagonally with the centers C in the arraying direction of the multiple optical fibers.
