<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an immobilizer having little influence on a communication radio wave even if an antenna is arranged near a metallic body on the periphery of a key hole. <P>SOLUTION: This immobilizer has a transponder built in an ignition key, and the antenna arranged in the vicinity of the key hole for inserting the ignition key, and performs communication for authentication with the transponder built in the ignition key, and prevents a theft of a vehicle by discriminating whether or not the ignition key is characteristic of the vehicle.
