PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developer carrier capable of keeping an uniform layer of developer on the surface of the developer carrier. SOLUTION: In a developer carrier 1 that rotates holding developer thereon, a surface pattern is formed on the surface of the developer carrier. The surface pattern has: an upstream side main transport groove DM, a downstream side main transport groove DM which is adjacent to the downstream side of the upstream side main transport groove DM in the direction of the rotation of the developer carrier, and a sub-transport grooves DS that are located between the upstream and downstream side main transport grooves DM but are not parallel with both of the transport grooves DM.
