<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxygen sensor element having excellent gas responsiveness and capable of raising a temperature rapidly, while preventing the breakage of the element. <P>SOLUTION: The oxygen sensor element comprises: a sensor section in which a reference electrode and a measuring electrode made of platinum are formed on at least two opposing surfaces of a long-length zirconia solid electrolyte plate, respectively; and a heater section in which a heating element is embedded in a ceramic insulating layer. The sensor element has a watt density S/V of 0.2 to 1.4 (w/mm<SP>3</SP>) where S (w) is a heating capacity at a stationary state when a voltage of 12 V is applied to the heating element, and V (mm<SP>3</SP>) is a volume of the entire element at the portion in which the heating element is embedded. The sensor element also satisfies 2.0≤p≤3.5, and 3≤pt<SP>2</SP>≤28 where p (mm) is a width of the portion in which the heating element is formed, as taken in the direction orthogonally crossing the direction of the length, and t (mm) is a thickness of the sensor element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
