Paper pulp refiner - uses frusto-conical rotor mounted in correspondingly shaped perforate chamber

The refiner is mounted in a vertical cylindrical housing providing a frusto-conical chamber having perforate walls and arranged with the small diameter end lower most, and a drive shaft for a frusto-conical rotor arranged in the chamber extends through a bearing seal in the lower end of the chamber. Pulp passes downwardly through the annular gap between the rotor and chamber walls and is collected in an annular collecting channel at the bottom of the chamber and excess fluid passes through the perforate walls. The refiner has a high through put capacity and reduced power consumption.
