PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set such data in a controller as slippage in the standard direction of a boring machine to the standard direction of a borehole and a position of a control point of the boring machine to a cutting face are obtained. SOLUTION: The boring machine equipped with a guide shell 6 mounting a rock drill machine thereon, a detector detecting an operation amount of a movable part of a boom 15 and a controller 50 automatically positioning the guide shell 6 based on detection data thereof includes a position detecting prism 3 of the guide shell 6, an automatic follow type measuring machine 40 for measuring a position of the prism 3 moving with the movement in the horizontal direction at two measured points and a calculating means obtaining the slippage in the reference direction of the boring machine to the reference direction of the borehole and the position of the control point J of the boring machine to the cutting face 10 based on calculation data of the position of the prism of the measured points obtained from the detecting data of the detector and the measured data of the prism position of two measured points by the automatic follow type measuring machine 40 to set the data in the controller 50.
