PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance operability in simultaneous recording and reproduction. SOLUTION: A recording and reproducing head 10 records a video signal received through a switch 2 on a recording medium 22. The video recording monitor image, the split display pictures of the video recording monitor image and the reproduced image and the display state of the reproduced image are switched by a user's single operation from a user interface 20. When both the video recording monitor image and the reproduced image are divided and simultaneously displayed, the picture of the reproduced image is displayed larger than the picture of the video recording monitor image. When the picture of the reproduced image is displayed larger than the picture of the video recording monitor image, the user's operation is valid to only the picture of the reproduced image. Thus, the operability for the simultaneous recording and reproduction can be enhanced. This invention is applicable to apparatuses such as recording and reproducing apparatuses.
