PURPOSE: A method for updating software of an optical disc recorder is provided to update software by using a write command modified by an update command, a host interface DRAM and a parallel data bus, thereby carrying out the software update in a short time without using any additional updating write. CONSTITUTION: A method for updating software of an optical disc recorder includes the steps of transmitting an update command and a program to update to an optical disc recorder(601,602) and stopping all operations of parts such as spindle. The program to update transmitted with the update command is temporarily stored to a DRAM(603), wherein the DRAM allocates a buffer in a basically 64K size. A 'boot code' in a boot area of a flash memory is moved to the DRAM for carrying out an update program stored in the DRAM by the boot code(604). After the update of the program, the boot code transmitted to the DRAM is written to a flash memory code area with the update program on the DRAM(605). As the writing is finished(606), the updated software is carried out from the beginning by the initiation of the reset of the code(607).
