The clamp (100) has two arms (210a,210b) which receive two electrodes (240a,240b) that clamp two components (C1,C2) for welding. A motion compensation unit (400) displaces the arms symmetrically till a resistive force is detected on one arm, then allows movement of the other arm till it is also in contact with the components.
