A hollow fiber membrane module comprising, for example, hollow fiber membranes of cross arrangement whose both ends are open, wherein the ratio (LL/D) of axial-direction length (LL) to outside diameter (D) of an assembly of hollow fiber membranes and the ratio (L/ID<2>) of effective length (L) to inside diameter (ID) of hollow fiber membranes are caused to fall within specified ranges. The hollow fiber membrane module exhibits high antiturbidity, high water permeability and high selective permeability with respect to fed fluid and, especially in the event of reverse osmosis membranes, also exhibits high boron removing performance.
