The invention relates to the application of a photosensitiser for the preparation of a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of burns. The invention further relates to a method of treating a burn. To this end, in accordance with the invention the photosensitiser is topically applied to a burn of a mammal, and the burn is irradiated with light of a wavelength that is absorbed by the photosensitiser.
