A pull-in signal calculator (225) detects a total light amount signal of the mark recorded on the wobble groove from the reflected light. A D flip-flop identifying circuit (224) compares the phase of a binary signal of the tracking error signal TE detected by the tracking error signal calculator with that of a binary signal of the total light amount signal PI detected by a pull-in signal calculator so as to identify the type of the optical disk even if the outline and optical system are the same and the recording system of UTOC is different.
