PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an arsenic ion adsorbent capable of efficiently removing arsenic ions dissolved in industrial water, hot spring wastewater, geothermal water or the like, a manufacturing method therefor and a treatment method for water containing arsenic ions. SOLUTION: The arsenic ion adsorbent is obtained by gelling liquid drops of a mixed solution of particles of at least one kind of soil selected from A: pseudogley yellowish brown forest soil (Tazawako town, Akita Prefecture), B: Kanuma soil (Kanuma City, Tochigi Prefecture) and C: yellowish brown forest soil (Tsukubashi, Ibaraki Prefecture) and an aqueous alginate solution in a polyvalent metal salt aqueous solution and drying the formed gel. This arsenic ion adsorbent is manufactured by mixing particles of at least one kind of soil selected from soils A, B and C with the aqueous alginate solution, and dripping the obtained mixed solution in the polyvalent metal salt aqueous solution to gel the same and drying the obtained gel particles. Water containing arsenic ions is treated by mixing water containing arsenic ions with the arsenic ion adsorbent and filtering the resulting mixture. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
