PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of enhancing the S/N ratio even at photographing with low illuminance. SOLUTION: An imaging system control section 5 outputs a control signal VC for commanding outputs of drive clocksϕVn,ϕHm of an imaging device 1 within a signal transfer period and outputs a control signal VC for commanding stop of outputs of the clocksϕVn,ϕHm for a pause period in succession to the signal transfer period. The pause period corresponds to a multiple of a natural number of the signal transfer period. The control section 5 periodically and repetitively outputs the command signal VC as above by the number of times equal to the number of horizontal lines of the imaging device 1. A timing generating section 2 executes production/output/stop of the clocksϕVn,ϕHm in response to a command of the control signal VC. Thus, the image pickup apparatus 20 intermittently drives the imaging device 1 to be able to produce/ output an imaging signal V2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
