A cannula (<bold>10</highlight>) receives surgical instruments (<bold>120</highlight>) for performing a surgical procedure on a body (<bold>130</highlight>). The cannula (<bold>10</highlight>) comprises a tube structure (<bold>12</highlight>) defining a passage (<bold>16</highlight>) through which the surgical instruments (<bold>120</highlight>) are inserted into the body (<bold>130</highlight>). The tube structure (<bold>12</highlight>) has a proximal end (<bold>20</highlight>) and a distal end (<bold>62</highlight>). The tube structure (<bold>12</highlight>) includes an expandable portion (<bold>40</highlight>) for enabling an increase in the cross-sectional area of the passage (<bold>16</highlight>) at the distal end (<bold>62</highlight>). The expandable portion (<bold>40</highlight>) of the tube structure (<bold>12</highlight>), when expanded, has a conical configuration. |
