A machine employed in a paper-making process has a rotating drum which accumulates particle residues and is cleaned from time to time by the action of a scraper blade (3). During operation, the scraper blade assembly is presented to the rotating component (4) at a pre-defined angle alpha, and is drawn over the component (4) while maintaining a constant angle of presentation. Also claimed is an operating process. The blade presentation is adjusted from time to time in accordance with the degree of wear at the blade edge. The degree of blade wear is monitored by a sensor linked to a position-correction regulator which compares the actual value with a target value and effects a position correction to the blade, which is mounted on a transverse sliding plate.
