PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of assembly of a reflecting mirror and to improve the fitting precision of the reflecting mirror by fitting metal plates for reinforcement to a carriage by associating the reflecting mirror with the metal plates for reinforcement by providing the reflecting mirror associatively with the metal plates for reinforcement incorporated in the carriage in which an optical unit of an image reader is built. SOLUTION: The metal plates 41 and 42 are incorporated in the carriage 22 in which the optical unit comprising a light source 31, a photoelectric converting device 35 which obtains image data of a document mounted on a platen glass 28, etc., is built. A first reflecting mirror 32 which guides reflected light from the document to a rod lens array 33 and a second reflecting mirror 34 which guides the projection light of the rod lens array 33 to the photoelectric converting device 35 are stuck at proper positions of the metal plates 41 and 42 for reinforcement.
