PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cage for an elevator constituted to easily and safely replace a side plate without narrowing the inside of the cage in replacement. SOLUTION: This cage for the elevator is provided with a car platform; a top 3; side plates 5 opposedly arranged above the end part of the car platform to surround a space between the car platform and the top; a pin 18 and an insertion hole 19 for detachably locking the upper end part of the side plate to the top; and a support member 4 fixed to the end part of the car platform to support the side plate in an upward separated state from the car platform while detachably fixing the lower end part of the side plate thereto from the space between the car platform and the top in the locked state of the upper end part of the side plate to the top. The side plate is mounted by locking the upper end part of the side plate to the top from the space between the car platform and the top and fixing the lower end part of the side plate to the support member, while the side plate is detached by releasing the fixation of the lower end part of the side plate from the space between the car platform and the top and releasing the lock of the upper end part of the side plate.
