PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To predict secular changes in a mechanical characteristic value of a member such as stainless steel or the like in use. SOLUTION: Changes in a mechanical characteristic value of material equivalent to a member in use are obtained in advance as a function of an initial value of the mechanical characteristic value, temperature, and time. The mechanical characteristic value of the member is obtained from the initial value of the mechanical characteristic value, temperature and time based on the function. It may be premised that the function of the mechanical characteristic value is proportional to the initial value of the mechanical characteristic value. For obtaining the function, time dependence and temperature dependence can be reflected on the function after obtaining the time dependence of the mechanical characteristic value at least at two kinds of temperatures.
