PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for efficiently producing an aromatic polycarbonate having excellent color and a reduced amount of gels and foreign substances. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate by melt polycondensation of an aromatic dihydroxy compound with a carbonic diester, in order to store the particulate or bulk aromatic dihydroxy compound to be used as the raw material, a storage tank filled with a gas having an oxygen concentration of 0.0001-1 vol.% is used.
