A chuck for a high speed tool, e.g. for a CNC machine has a housing (1) with a threaded bore (3) in the rear end and with a slit chuck (4) fitted into the front end. The front of the slit chuck presses into a clamping sleeve into which the shank of the tool is fitted. A threaded pressure slug is driven into the threaded bore and presses a pressure pad against the back of the slit chuck. This is driven forwards to drive the clamping sleeve against a sloping reaction insert (14,15) in the side of the chuck housing, causing the chuck, and clamping sleeve, to securely grip the tool shank.
|
