Multiple events occurring during operation of a communications network element are monitored by detecting occurrence of events of a predetermined kind occurring during operation of the network element. The times of occurrence of detected events are determined, and a summary display is generated indicating graphically the times for which at least one detected event occurred. In response to user input, choices are displayed of event information available for display in further detail, with choices including detected events highlighted. <IMAGE>
