PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To feed a precedent return cut sheet from the same paper feeding table in advance while keeping a reading order of the fed cut sheets in a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: When paper jam of the cut sheets occurs in a paper feeding process from a paper feeding part 1 to a paper ejecting part 10, or a handling failure of a handling part 8 of the cut sheets occurs, a paper feeding roller 3 for feeding the cut sheets from the paper feeding table 5 is reversely rotated. The following cut sheet grappled by the paper feeding part is returned to the paper feeding table side. After the tip of the following cut sheet passes through a first detecting sensor 9, the paper feeding roller 3 is stopped in a state where the tip is grappled by the paper feeding roller 3 and a driven roller 4. The precedent cut sheet having running failure or reading disturbance is placed on the following cut sheet. This placed precedent cut sheet is fed by the normal rotation of the paper feeding roller.
