The top wall (14) of the container (1) includes a means for fixing the gates (20, 30) in this wall into their locking positions. The container has opposing front and rear walls (11, 12), opposing top and bottom walls (13, 14) and opposing side walls (15), each one including an upper post (60). Front and rear notches are provided on the inner side of each upper post, the front notch having a first end relatively close to the rear and top walls and a second end relatively close to the front and bottom walls. Each rear notch (63) has a third end (631) relatively close to the front and top walls and a fourth end (632) relatively close to the rear and bottom walls. The top wall includes top and bottom gates extending in a transverse direction between the inner sides of the upper posts and located in the same plane relatively close to the front and rear walls respectively. An elastic fastener (40) secures the top and bottom gates together one on top of the other and keeps them spaced apart from the front and rear walls respectively. The gates include front and rear pins (31) protruding towards the inner sides of the upper posts and engaged with front and rear notches (63) respectively, so that the gates are biased by the elastic fastener towards the bottom wall into locking positions. The gates are moved into the locking position when the goods (1) are introduced into the container and/or when the front and rear pins reach the second and fourth ends of the front and rear notches. An Independent claim is also included for a method for loading or unloading the container, comprising the following steps : (a) resting the container with its bottom wall on the floor and with its top wall removed ; (b) filling the container up to a level between the first and second ends of the front notches and between the third and fourth ends of the rear notches ; (c) placing runners (24) at the rear ends of length grooves in the front posts (221) in the front gate ; (d) positioning the front gate on top of the container so that the front rod is fixed against the front wall and engaging the front pins with the front notches ; (e) moving the fixing means into a position where the spring actuator rods are released ; (f) positioning the rear gate on top of the container so that the spring actuators are supported against the runner locks on the front gate ; (g) compressing the springs in the actuators by moving the rear gate towards the front gate and engaging the rear pins with the rear slots ; (h) releasing the rear gate and sliding the front gate runners into the front slots and moving the front gate assembly towards the bottom wall until it is in the locking position, and moving the rear gate in a symmetrical manner into the rear slots until too is in the locking position ; and (i) moving the fixing means into a position where they are blocking the spring actuator shafts.
