PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image acquisition apparatus provided with a pixel shift function and capable of early confirming the propriety of a result of pixel shift processing, and to provide an image acquisition method. SOLUTION: The image acquisition apparatus is provided with: a pixel shift means for moving a relative position between a luminous flux made incident onto an imaging device and the imaging element; a photographing means for executing photographing when the relative position is a particular position and at least a position moved from the particular position by a series of operations by the pixel shift means; an image generating means for generating a new image with high resolution from a plurality of image data photographed by the photographing means in a series of the operations above; and a display control means for allowing a display section to display an image initially photographed among a plurality of images photographed until the new image is generated.
