<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for determining a fuel cell with or without a defect without decreasing output voltage to an undesirable degree. <P>SOLUTION: When the defect of the fuel cell is determined under actual power generation, first, temperature of the inside of the fuel cell and humidity of supply gas are set (step S200). Under the set condition, while the amount of gas is varied, the supply of gas to the fuel cell is started (step S210). At this point, based on the difference between the lowest cell voltage of the fuel cell and a given threshold, the output current of the fuel cell is controlled so that the lowest cell voltage approaches to a threshold (step S220). A gas utilization factor which is a rate of gas utilized in actual electrochemical reaction of the supplied gas is calculated (step S230), an the presence of the defect is determined (step S240). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
